ip pbx case studies

A wide variety of businesses across the UK are now powered by a VoIPCortex IP PBX. While each business has different requirements, the reliability and flexibility of a VoIPCortex solution is appreciated by all.

The Independent school

Founded in 1807, the School occupies a 120-acre site. The main site has in excess of 15 separate buildings, many of which have listed status. There are over 200 staff, including the teaching and administration areas, spread across many academic departments and ancillary areas such as accounts and catering. Good external and internal communications are vital to the organisation and smooth-running of this large establishment.

the challenge

Across this vast site the telephone system consisted of over 50 individual British Telecom lines each with their own telephone number. All lines were on a premium rate tariff meaning that the school was paying out huge amounts each month in both line rental and call charges. Even internal calls were charged as people had to dial external numbers to reach other departments within the school.
Head of IT, Mark Northen, quickly realised that this antiquated system needed to be changed to reduce costs and improve external and internal communications. Mark researched a number of possible VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and software solutions and became interested in the Asterisk range of VoIP products.

The SMB option

Since 1996, Intuitiv have specialised in custom-built website solutions for businesses both large and small. Their solutions range from those that focus on aesthetic design, to highly complex and secure database-driven eCommerce sites. Intuitiv pride themselves on their technical knowledge and their ability to deliver the most effective and appropriate solutions to their clients – and with offices in Buckinghamshire and Lancaster, Intuitiv serve the length and breadth of the UK.

the challenge

Intuitiv required a cost effective, reliable phone system that would facilitate high quality calling and would cater well for remote workers. It was imperative that the system be able to handle the demands of a medium sized office with features such as call transfer, voicemail to email and CLI as standard, while retaining their well-known and established telephone number. Intuitiv needed to be certain that home workers could benefit from increased functionality and flexibility, while at the same time maintaining privacy.
On top of this, they required that all remote workers could still be a part of the central phone system, with call transfers and voicemail functionality available to each user, along with per extension call statistic and billing information. To add to the challenge, Intuitiv would soon be moving into a new office – an old converted pub. This meant that the system would have to be installed in an unobtrusive way, and integrate easily with the existing LAN infrastructure that would arrive soon after.
